I got in my feed the article Three chapters at Cloudflare: Programmer to CTO to Board of Directors, where I found out about our topic.
Who is Cloudflare and what do they want from us?
Cloudflare is an American company that has been doing two important things for 15 years: making the Internet faster and safer. And they’re good at it.
- Over 60 cloud services around the world
- 227 billion attacks blocked daily. Yes, that’s not a typo. Billions in a single day
- 20% of websites are protected by Cloudflare
- They have a physical presence in over 335 locations across more than 125 countries
With such a wide footprint, providing faster and safer Internet connections is as easy as it gets for them.
What is 1.1.1.1 and how do we use it?
1.1.1.1 (or one.one.one.one as the commercial name goes) is a service that sits between my device and the jungle full of dangers and bottlenecks called the Internet.
By simply installing an app (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS or Linux), we can get a boost in Internet speed and security.
The app creates a VPN and that’s it, all that’s left is to tweak the advanced settings as you like.
This is the free WARP version. You can upgrade to WARP+, which costs 8 lei per month and additionally gives you higher speed by choosing the route your request takes, depending on the bottlenecks detected at that moment.
